Rejuvenate and Revitalize Your Appearance with Botox

Your face shows all of your emotions to the world – laughter, sadness, anger and surprise.  A lifetime of emotions means your facial muscles have been put to the test, leading to wrinkles, crow’s feet, and even laugh lines.  All of these signs of emotion can leave you looking older than your years.  With advancements in technology, your dermatologist can significantly reduce the appearance and signs of aging on your face with Botox.  With Botox you will be able to see a visible improvement to the wrinkles on your face, creating smoother skin for months!

What is Botox?

Unlike soft tissue fillers, such as Juvederm, that add volume to skin depressions, Botox blocks the release of a chemical called acetylcholine, which triggers the muscle contractions that create wrinkles.  Botox essentially paralyzes the muscles and stops them from contracting.  Results are visible within approximately one week after treatment, and remain for a minimum of three months.

Botox cosmetic treatments can be used to improve:

  • Worry lines in your forehead
  • Lines between the eyebrows
  • Smile lines
  • Laugh lines—from nose to mouth
  • Crow’s feet
Anyone in generally good health, who has fairly shallow fine lines and wrinkles, may be good candidates for Botox treatments.

The Botox Procedure

Botox works to relax the contraction of muscles by blocking nerve impulses.  The result is muscles that can no longer contract, which relaxes and softens your wrinkles.  Typically, it will take two to four days to see cosmetic improvement, with results that can last anywhere from four to six months.  Most patients require retreatment to remove wrinkles and lines as they begin to reappear. However, after each injection the wrinkles return less severe as the muscles are trained to relax.

Botox TreatmentThe procedure does not require anesthesia and usually takes just a few minutes to perform.  The protein is injected into the muscle using a fine needle to minimize discomfort and maximize accuracy. In order to minimize bruising, patients should stop using aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications about two weeks before their treatment.  You can resume normal activities immediately, but your dermatologist may advise you to stay out of the sun.
